OK – now macho, strong, stand tall – flesh wound – shrugging off damage and go save the entire planet – that’s the stuff I want to do when I’m not at work. Being poor, slow, helpless, not strong enough, death-daring, vigilante, strong, heroic etc.. – that I want to be. But in most games these days – you have to fall and fail all the time. You have to be one in the team, one to cry out for help.
Take the COD series and why not Homefront – all the time you fall, you cling desperately to a small ledge and wait to be saved. You – the hero. And everybody is talking about how good you are. In my opinion, the hero you depict is rather part of the problem – unable to carry his own weight. In Homefront you can’t even open doors, you can’t enter buidlings – fuck, you can’t even cross some open areas before your nannies have walked there first to check that it is safe.
No – time to give the Private Burden a rest – I am seeing Deus EX and Duke Nukem and moreover the next TES on the horizon – and I will kick butt, take names and save the world – ayyiight?
