So, I have now made some of the tests that I wished to. I have tried my AKG 242 HD and made some tests on different music. I have also had some really satisfactory tries with driving my Logitech THX 2.1 speaker setup.
The uDac2 drives headphones well and also makes them shine a bit better with the amp quality. This will be mostly noticed with larger headphones that requires a bit more. Also, I have heard some saying they are not satisfied with the output when it comes to the uDac2. I can’t agree – when turning to speakers – I could easily reach volumes to drive both neighbours mad. The sound was still clear even though turning the knob up.
Still, I don’t think that the uDAC2 is that much better than an internal card at the same price class – mainly because you lack the entire sound card flora of extras – like microphone plug, 5.1 and/or 7.1 sound. So this is a nice thing if you are looking for an easy way to get good music – and mostly if you have a portable computer, or need a good way to get a RCA connection between your computer and stereo. Another aspect is that it will give you a small boost to your headphones especially if they require an AMP or has a benefit from an AMP. It is for the money and size a really nifty little thing, and I’m very happy with it.
